I have decided to start posting inspiration projects. These are ideas and methods that designers can use to encourage better ideas and methods. Typically they are inspired by something I have seen and wanted to make into an assignment. Here is Project #1 - brought about by my love of inspiration boards. "Piero Fornasetti was a Milanese painter, sculptor, interior decorator, engraver of books and a creator of more than 11,000 products. In terms of variety of decoration, Fornasetti’s production of objects and furniture is one of the largest of the 20th century." 1913-1988. Wish I could go to Milan and see the Spazio Fornasetti shop in person.

Revinylize

I worked with AIGA SLC to conceptualize this project that promotes and encourages social awareness with the power of creativity. By reclaiming local billboard material, the once giant images are transformed into smaller works of art in the form of unique vinyl bags and accessories. My students at the University of Utah created their own unique solutions for this reclaimed billboard material. Here are few examples: purse by Jaleh Afshar, fruit bags by Spencer Charles, skateboard (layers of vinyl) by Brayden Iwasaki, raincoat by Sam Borstadt.

Ah, the plastic bag - a medium I have been working in for much too long. When I see a new interpretation of the bag, I immediately question and judge. At first glance, I didn't quite appreciate these embroidered plastic bags. But the more I looked, their primitive nature has an appeal. In installation form, this work becomes more powerful.
