Ban the Plastic Bag
The plastic grocery bag is a common side effect of consumer culture. It is not viewed as valuable beyond its limited use. It will never biodegrade – surviving for centuries in landfills, contaminating oceans and endangering species. Even with a dedicated effort to recycle, the alarmingly high rate of consumption of the plastic bag far surpasses the benefits recycling can offer. Through the process of collecting reclaimed bags, I want to draw attention to the inordinate amount of plastic we consume while discovering opportunities for creative reuse of this material.
